We have filmed the majority of the content for our video, the next thing we'll do is start to edit what we have.

Progress Report
Today Rhianna and I made an updated filming timetable and I created a rough sketch of a Digipak so that I would be able to use stills from our filming in the different panels.

The Maccabees Website Analysis
Progress update
At the moment I'm working on the analysis of the band websites and the schedule for our construction.
On Friday 4th November we were going to be filming at Wellington College indoor pool, however the actors we were using for the video couldn't make it so we're having to re-organize it.

Instrument Props
For our music video, we were inspired by the band SWMRS and the song Figuring It Out in terms of props. In that video they play real instruments when it's in black and white but have instruments made out of cardboard when it's switched to colour. We thought that the cardboard went with our upbeat indie genre and the song. We also thought it gave the video a bit more of a DIY feel to it and the actors we are using for our video can't play instruments so they wouldn't have to learn to pretend to play them.

The Pitch
From our pitch and feedback, we found that we need to go back and analyse the lyrics more.
We also need to take into account the problems that may occur such as lip syncing and timing problems.
Moving forward, we need to create an animated storyboard so it's easier for us and others to visualize how this video is going to come together.

Dolby
Hollie- the second music video analysis is more thorough and focused; try not to tag on Andrew Goodwyn's theory but use the principles to inform the analysis. The Maccabees video is clearly a concept video- consider if this would be suitable and do-able for your project. Don't forget to look at some digipaks and adverts to help make the links across the products and see how it works as a promotional tool.

The importance of music videos in the digital age
The importance of music videos in the digital age
The importance of making a music video has increased due to the digital age where most things can be accessed through a portable device on the internet. This means that things need to stand out more if they don’t want to get lost in the sea of similar ideas and products. One way music can stand out is by having a music video, preferably one that causes controversy so that it will attract more media attention. Prior to the digital age, music videos would only be made for songs that were lead singles on an album and were thought to have success in the charts. Nowadays, it is becoming more and more common to have 3 or 4 music videos per album because they are a huge part of marketing now that shows like ‘Top of the Pops’ don’t exist anymore to give artists TV coverage. Music videos allow people to have full access to a product (the song) without even purchasing it. Many music videos are available to watch 24/7 online through sites like YouTube which can be a disadvantage to the music industry as you don’t have to ever buy a hard copy of the song/album. This is why record companies initially began to fight against sites such as these by blocking any music videos that were uploaded of their artists. Not long after, they began to utilize the online streaming tool by creating record company channels and individual artist channels where they could upload their content such as live versions of songs and official videos/audio. A good thing about sites such as YouTube is that videos are able to reach a wide audience and people may be led to the video by watching similar videos and being suggested a particular artist to watch.

Latchmere-The Maccabees Analysis

Letter for permssion
This is the letter we wrote to the record company in order to gain permission for the use of the song in the music video.
Dear Sir/Madam,
We understand
you are the copyright holder of The Maccabee’s music. We are A-level students who are hoping to get
your permission to use the song ‘Latchmere’ to create a music video for our
media course, as well as producing an album and magazine advert for the artist
in question.
If we received your permission, this track would only be
used in an educational context and be viewed by our media class, our teacher
and the OCR exam board moderator, it would not be released to a large
audience.
The artist and your company would of course be fully
recognised throughout pre-production and the final video itself. A copyright notice with wording supplied by
you can be included in the records of the project. If this is required, please send full
details.
We look forward to hearing from you,
Regards,
